Our newest North American porcupine was born April 30th to parents Needles and Spike. The youngster is their third offspring and its sex is as yet unknown. Veterinarian Dr. Moore and keeper Bria are shown here giving the porcupette its first checkup.

See if you can spot our African zebra mice in the Hall of Animals. Also known as striped grass mice, these striking rodents are native to northern Africa. They have the remarkable adaptation of being able to shed their tails (which won’t grow back) when frightened or threatened.

POV: When you’ve just put out the afternoon treats…
Our keepers regularly set up this treat dispenser as enrichment for our young Nigerian dwarf goats. As you can see, the four goats know exactly how to get the kibble to come out! 📸Barn Associate Nadiya

Our (unofficial) festival of the forsythia has ended 😞. For the short time the forsythia was in bloom here at the zoo, a wide variety of animals, from porcupines to the Geoffroy’s marmosets shown here, enjoyed this flavorful flora as a treat! 📸Keeper Gwen
